Texterity Title, The Kit, Sets Success Record: Digital to App to Acquisition in 10 Months
Back to list.

June 15, 2011

Southborough, MA -- On June 7th, Star Media Group, a division of Toronto Star Newspapers Limited, announced their intention to acquire The Kit, a Canadian digital magazine and mobile app produced by Texterity.

Focused on wellness and beauty, The Kit defied traditional print-first models by launching a digital-only publication in September, 2010, followed by a branded magazine app. Both are free to readers and supported by advertisers.

By December, Masthead (Canada’s publishing industry voice) was touting The Kit’s meteoric rise, citing 50,000 visits and 850,000 page views. By June, The Kit was enjoying more than 232,000 visits and close to 4.5 million page views.

Says Kit publisher, Giorgina Bigioni, "We are thrilled to be a leader in the digital and mobile space, and now to part of the prestigious Star Media family. It’s exciting to have this partnership happen so close to our 1-year anniversary. We look forward to making a good thing even better, by adding print to our online, digital, and mobile offerings.”

The Kit app, which attracts more than 1,500 new users a month, is enhanced with videos and slideshows. Like all Texterity apps, it includes live RSS feeds and social media connectivity to make it constantly relevant. Driving between-issue readership is extremely attractive to prominent advertisers like Chanel, Calvin Klein, Shiseido, Aveeno, Jergens, L’Oreal Paris, Biotherm, and Vichy who have jumped on board.

Martin Hensel, founder and president of Texterity, sees The Kit as a model for other publishers. “The Kit is a perfect example of a publisher taking control of their destiny -- being clear in their purpose, bold in their execution, and open to innovative technology. Texterity is delighted to part of their digital strategy and their success story.”

Star Media Group VP of Business Development, Edward Greenspon, calls this pairing “a union of one of Canada’s most established media companies with one of the country’s youngest and most dynamic media brands.” He adds, “The Star Media Group-Kit combination is about creativity and quality – knowing how to put information into the right hands at the right time.”
