March 16, 2009 SOUTHBOROUGH, MA -- March 16, 2009 -- Leading digital publisher, Texterity, Inc., is previewing its new "Coverleaf Reader" at industry events this month including Folio Summit in Chicago, Custom Content in Miami, and Publishing Business Expo in New York.
The beta release, offering a core feature set, is scheduled to debut March 31st. Beta 2 and live releases, with clipping and offline/airplane mode, are planned for May.
This next generation interface takes its name from Texterity’s Coverleaf magazine service at www.coverleaf.com. The Coverleaf Reader provides benefits for publishers who are part of Coverleaf, but it is not required that publishers be in Coverleaf to use the new reader
The Coverleaf Reader offers three important capabilities: built-in IAB ad display to create new revenue opportunities, one-click social networking to broaden reach and build communities among readers, and "i-frame" technology to integrate digital editions into publishers’ websites.
New features include hot zones to facilitate seamless page turning, animated page transitions, expandable or collapsible tabbed "drawers" for easy viewing, and new customization opportunities. Digital readers will now be able to enjoy a persistent Table of Contents, search all issues, and see all back issues at-a-glance.
Navigation enhancements include clear subscribe links, selectable size adjustments, direct page-to-page access, options to share via e-mails and blogs, plus discussion groups for threaded conversations and hosted forums.
Martin Hensel, Texterity founder and president, says "This web reader increases reader engagement, broadens social networking systems and creates the first real program for concrete revenue generation. We expect to bring all our publishers on board during the months ahead and work closely with them to maximize these new capabilities."
Robert Keenan, VP of Online Media for Edgell Communications, planning to be among the first to transition, agrees: "We see tremendous potential in the versatility of the Coverleaf Reader. It is very much in keeping with the innovation and insight we’ve grown to expect from Texterity."
