"Make Adobe eBook" Service Supports Enhanced E-Books
Integrates E-Book Merchandising, Sample Chapters, Purchase Links
SOUTHBOROUGH, MA, October 31, 2001 — Texterity,
Inc., a leading provider of electronic publishing services, today
announced general availability of the Make Adobe eBook service,
enabling creation of high-quality eBooks for the Adobe® Acrobat®
eBook Reader™. The new service enables publishers to create
Adobe PDF-based eBooks with wide-ranging functionality, including
the creation of sample chapter books with purchase links, bookmark
integration, contents linking, multimedia, and interactivity.
The Make Adobe eBook service automates distribution of final, sale-ready
eBooks to distributors supporting the Adobe PDF-based eBook format,
including Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com, Lightning Source, OverDrive,
and Yahoo! Ebooks. Texterity provides integrated links back to publisher
and retailer web sites from within sample e-books, thereby enabling
add-on purchases, print book merchandising, and print and e-book
bundling.
Texterity's Make Adobe eBook service includes:
- Creation of standard or "sample chapter" Adobe eBook
files from any PDF normal file including files created from QuarkXPress,
Word, WordPerfect, PageMaker, InDesign, and FrameMaker
- Web or FTP submission of PDF, metadata, and cover art files
with support for ZIP and StuffIt archives
- Insertion of navigation features including page numbers, table
of contents links, bookmarks, index linking, multimedia insertion,
and digital rights management sectioning
- Incorporation of metadata including book title, author, and
electronic ISBN, with the option to insert a new eISBN on the
copyright page
- Cropping for the best viewable area based on printer crop marks,
centering of the text, and fit to ideal 2:3 aspect ratio
Publishers currently using Texterity's PDF-based
services include Penguin Putnam, Time Warner, St. Martin's Press,
McGraw-Hill, Random House, Rough Guides, Scholastic, and HarperCollins.
