Provides "E-Galley Secure" Services Using Digital Rights
Management
DAW Books Launches
Sorcery Rising by Jude Fisher
SOUTHBOROUGH, MA, and NEW YORK, April 29, 2002
Texterity, Inc., a leading provider of electronic publishing
services, today announced the E-Galley Secure service, enabling
publishers to distribute pre-production books to reviewers, bookstores,
libraries, and customers using sophisticated digital rights management.
The service allows publishers to use eBooks to distribute "advance
reader" copies with full assurance of copy protection. DAW
Books is using the secure service to launch Sorcery Rising, a new
novel by author Jude Fisher. The secure galley can be downloaded
at http://www.bookstk.com/sorcery.
E-Galley Secure allows publishers to promote
and sell their books by using the security-enabled eBook reading
technology from Microsoft, Adobe, and MobiPocket. Like the basic
E-Galley service, E-Galley Secure provides automated conversion
of "print ready" PDFs into all eBook formats, fully hosted
publisher-label web sites, and full tracking and download control.
Sean P. Fodera, Director of Electronic Publishing
for DAW Books stated, "We are excited to have secure e-galleys
of our work available through Texterity. This new format directly
addresses the concerns of our authors regarding their intellectual
property, while permitting the galleys to reach a greater number
of reviewers and customers than traditional printed galleys. Sorcery
Rising is one of the highlights on our list this year, and its success
as a secure e-galley will make us eager to distribute more of our
science fiction and fantasy titles in this manner."
"Were pleased to see DAW Books using
our secure E-Galley service," said Cimarron Buser, Vice President
of Marketing for Texterity. "This is an excellent use of eBook
technology to increase publisher revenue. We can address DAW Books
concern over control and distribution, and provide all the benefits
of E-Galley, including increased reviewer and buyer readership,
shorter time-to-delivery for galleys, and lower costs of galley
delivery to a larger audience."
About DAW Books, Inc.
Founded in 1971 by veteran paperback editor Donald
A. Wollheim, along with his wife, Elsie B. Wollheim, DAW Books was
the first publishing company ever devoted exclusively to science
fiction and fantasy. Despite its high profile, DAW is still a small
private company, owned exclusively by its publishers, Elizabeth
R. Wollheim and Sheila E. Gilbert. Betsy and Sheila are strongly
committed to discovering and nurturing new talent, and to keeping
a personal "family" spirit at DAW - something they feel
is all too rare in todays world of international conglomerate
publishing. DAWs offices are in New York City, and the companys
web site is www.dawbooks.com. DAW Books are distributed by Penguin
Putnam Inc.
